Tuesday April 10

I'm not quite sure what to say except that progress continues to be slow but Allison is spending more time awake and will start multiple therapies today to get her back on her feet. She slept really well last night, rolled all over the bed, and continues to love popsicles. Now we are back upstairs and not in the ICU so that is good. I feel like we can now concentrate on healing.

It feels like it is going to get worse before it gets better, so keep pulling for us. We still need your positive thoughts and prayers. I told Allison that we'll let you all do the worrying so we can work on getting stronger. Our mantra is Never Give Up.

I read your posts to her this morning and I think they are helping her to remember the normal life we want her to get back to. Thanks for trying to cheer her up, I think it will work once she gets a bit more energy.

Dianna

Hi Allison,

The Epperson family is wishing you a steady and smooth recovery. Good sleep and happy thoughts will go a long way!

OK, so Max has a silly knock-knock joke (he's still learning, but thinks it's very funny!):

Knock, knock
(Who's there?)
Kitty.
(Kitty who?)
Kitty threw up a furball.

We'll work on our jokes and send a funnier one soon, I promise!

All our love,
Kathy, Jay, Max and Ethan

I think we met you at a Jewpleton event, but we do not know you very well. We are good friends with the Felshers (we live at 2691 Valentia) and have been following whats going on with Allison through them. Please know that we say prayers for Allison & your family every night before bed. Jaden (our 3 1/2 y.o.) says special prayers for her as well, he wants her to know. We made a donation to Brent's Place here in Denver in Allison's name. Stay as strong as you sound & Bezret Hashem she will recover quickly.

Sending lots of prayers,
Jennifer, Max, Jaden & Talia Schrutt

Dear Allison,
I just heard that you were in the hospital...and I saw your picture on your website. I remember when you were in Stepping Stones, we took a picture of you raising your hand during Passover...and it is such a beautiful picture, that we use it all the time to show kids how brave it is to always ask questions. You are very brave right now...and you must be a little scared too. You just keep on being brave. I will say a lot of prayers to God everyday...for you and your mommy and your daddy and for Emily. Love, Debbie

Hi Allison...here's a joke that Brad told me, actually it is a Steven and Sydney joke:

How do you catch a unique rabbit?
"you neak" up on it.

How do you catch a "tame" rabbit?
Tame way, you neak up on it.

I really like that one...xoxoxox Aunt Gail :-)

Allison and Family,

Hi, guys. Yesterday (or maybe it was the day before), your Daddy wrote about a tree that you planted with him on Eudora Street. He said that he brought you a bud from that tree. If it is the same tree I am thinking about, I have to tell you that I have watched that tree every fall for the last 3 years from my living room window. I started watching it when Charlie (Ellie and Max's baby brother) was born and I would feed him in my favorite comfy chair in our living room. For some strange reason, I have noticed that tree more than any other tree on Eudora Street. It's leaves just seem to be brighter and more vibrant than the other trees on our street. Now I know why...it is the love and attention you and your daddy gave to it. That tree is growing healthy and strong, just as you will. Thank you both for giving us such beauty.

You know, the Bresler family was not thrilled when you all decided to move to Stapleton! But... in this last week we have seen what a tremendous new community you have now. Friends and neighbors from both Park Hill and Stapleton (and every where else!) are rooting for you. We all love you and can't wait to see you (all) soon.

Love,
Alison Bresler

Hi all...I really need to get back to work, but I can't stop singing the song "high hopes" and wanted to send you the lyrics...

Just what makes that little old ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time you're gettin' low
'stead of lettin' go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call, and your back's to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin' that dam

'Cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time you're feelin' bad
'stead of feelin' sad
Just remember that ram
Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam

All problems just a toy balloon
They'll be bursted soon
They're just bound to go pop
Oops there goes another problem kerplop

Who's the girl who's always been
Pretty, smart, with a real big grin
Happy, strong, never gives in
Her name says it all: Allison WINN

She'll never lose 'cause she's a fighter
She makes even the sunshine brighter.

Dianna and Brian,
When talking to Marcy this afternoon I remembered one 4 year old boy I cared for in the PICU who was there for traumatic brain injury. After about two weeks of doing nothing but being incredibly sick, one night he actually lifted his bottom for a diaper change, we were so surprised. He ended up walking, talking, eating on his own and having things he enjoyed --he brain is amazing and children are too. Remember how many muscles it takes to coordinate a smile. I heard Allison smiled at this website. I know her progress seems so slow, but hang in there. Let us know what we can do to help. I'd be happy to come sit with her when you two need some fresh air. I could come tomorrow evening, or anytime Saturday. Christine

A letter to Allison from Ella

Dear Allison

I think you are brave because the doctor put that cut on you and it probably hurt a lot. You are the bravest in the whole first grade. Or even the world. But you didn't want to be brave but then that cancer came in you and so the braveness came too. So that is why you are the bravest of all.

If I could do real magic then I would make you better with my wand. But I haven't learned that spell, yet. I am trying to find it out.

Love from Ella
