Allison wrote this story with the help of her teacher, Melissa Mahlke. She wrote it to help other kids feel better about writing and drawing about their experiences in the hospital. Now she says she'd like to be an art therapist, and start a foundation to help kids who have to go through what she has gone through. We made copies and gave them to the therapists at Children's who help the kids express themselves. She also read it on the air for the Alice 105.9 radio thon, which raised 1.5 million for Children's Hospital during February.

I am one of Marcy's colleagues at UNM. One year ago, we were working on a project together and I've been thinking of Allison and your family ever since.
Allison-
My daughter, Cassidy is 8. She loves Junie B Jones, High School Musical, Hannah Montana and American Girl dolls. She loves to write stories too but she can't seem to write endings to hers.
We want you to know that your story you've written is so awesome! Particulary the part where you said that your dad almost peed his pants. You are a strong, smart and super cool girl.
I'm so glad that you've gotten most of the treatments over. Keep strong-there is nothing that you can't do!
